JULY 2017

This second edition of the Professional Development Program brought five international artists to BAM for a week of development training.

ABOUT THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

In July 2017, five international artists with an investment in arts management traveled to Brooklyn to spend a week with Creative Capital and BAM Education. These participants were nominated by DMUSA alumni groups KEIGWIN + COMPANY, Reggie Wilson/Fist and Heel Performance Group, and Stephen Petronio Company. Each artist was then paired with a local counterpart for their weeklong training. The group of ten spent the week engaging with arts administrators and educators from both BAM and Creative Capital, learning skills from social media marketing to business planning. In addition, the group participated in daily dance workshops with alumni artistic directors, learned traditional dance technique from the international artists, and collaborated in a final choreographic showing of their work.

FROM THE TRAVEL BLOG

“Because he and I shared many things in common, we begin a conversation about collaborating. He, like myself, received free dance training that directly impacted the course of his life which, also like me, allowed him to travel the world and have a career in dance.”

—Davalois Fearon on meeting Addisu Demissie Kifle from Ethiopia
