ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
Founded by a Cuban-American and embracing the full diversity of the Latinx experience in the US, CONTRA-TIEMPO embraced their Latin American tour just as fully. In Ecuador, the company led workshops for 100 at-risk and indigenous young people, as well as seniors over 80. In Chile, they danced in Santiago’s famous GAM theater for diverse audiences ages 5 to 85, even the blind. And in Bolivia, they learned as much as they led, studying Afro-Bolivian dance styles and hosting a roundtable on social change through dance.

FROM THE TRAVEL BLOG
“As we got off the plane in Temuco, I felt a familiar sense – the wind that felt like it carried history, the crisp clean air that made my lungs tingle and the stunning view of snow peaked mountains in every direction you looked… we were in the South and I began to remember.”
—Ana Maria Alvarez on returning to South America
