ABOUT THE COLLABORATION

Founded by Brenda Angiel in 1994, this internationally-renowned company uses specially designed rigging to soar its dancers through space. After meeting and working with Doug Varone and Dancers during their stay in Buenos Aires, Angiel and her company agreed to travel to New York in September 2013 to collaborate on a brand-new piece for the BAM Next Wave Festival.

The two companies lived and worked together for three weeks at SUNY Purchase, combining their movement vocabularies, trading skills, and leading master classes for students. After a month of rehearsal (including one live-streamed session), they performed a double-bill evening at the BAM Fisher featuring works from both companies and culminating in their final collaboration.

FROM THE TRAVEL BLOG

“I haven’t shared a creative process before and I found this process enriching, to learn how another choreographer manages it. The choreographer is usually lonely in his position, and sharing the job is a welcome change.”
