The Los Angeles-based repertory company shared its strong, optimistic vision and innovative approach to dance with communities in Israel and Jordan.
ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
BODYTRAFFIC began their residency in Israel with a contact improvisation workshop with Vertigo Dance Company’s Power of Balance Program, an initiative for mixed-ability dancers. Company members then separated by gender to work with, respectively, an all-female choreography collective, and the all-male company Between Heaven and Earth, which included former Israeli soldiers. At Beit Ha Gal Galim (“House of Wheels”), the company led movement workshops for adults with cerebral palsy. In Jordan, the group worked with differently abled children and their teachers at the Al-Hussein Center, and collaborated with dance and music students at the Zaha Cultural Center to create an original performance piece.

BODYTRAFFIC has performed for sold-out audiences at prestigious theaters and festivals around the world, including The Joyce Theater; Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival; the Israeli Opera/Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center; New York City Center’s Fall for Dance Festival; Chutzpah! Festival in Vancouver; Laguna Dance Festival; The Broad Stage, Santa Monica; the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts at UPenn; World Music/CRASHarts in Boston; the Winspear Opera House; and the American Dance Festival. In 2016, BODYTRAFFIC made its Hollywood Bowl debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 2017-2018, the company celebrated its 10th season with an international tour to more than 20 cities, including Moscow and St. Petersburg for the CONTEXT Diana Vishneva Festival, and The Hague, Netherlands for The Holland Dance Festival. The season culminated with performances at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills.
BODYTRAFFIC has an extensive outreach and education program that provides training opportunities for pre-professionals, and customized dance experiences for inner-city schools in Los Angeles, as well as for underserved populations around the globe.

DanceMotion USASM was a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the US Department of State, administered by BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) to facilitate cultural exchange while showcasing the best in contemporary American dance abroad.
